If you’re just taking up the game of pickleball, we’d like to provide a few reminders to keep you safe and at your best on the court:
- Always save time before game play for a brief warm-up and stretch. This will help to prevent injury and get you ready for optimal performance.
- Make sure there’s nothing you could trip over or wet spots on the court that could cause a slip and fall injury.
- Avoid moves that can put you at greater risk of a fall, like backpedaling for a ball or overextending your reach.
- Always communicate with your partner so your game remains free of dangerous collisions.
- Consider investing in a pair of protective eye goggles, which can keep your eyes safe from impact injuries.

Where can I play pickleball in Sussex County, NJ?
Branchville Park
Enjoy two outdoor hard courts here in Branchville. Although the lines are permanent, you will need to bring your own nets. These free public courts also offer bathroom facilities on site as well as water fountains.

Fredon Rec Center
This recreation center offers three indoor pickleball courts which are open to the public for play at the cost of $3 for a single day or $20 per month. This gives you access to restrooms as well and lighted courts for all-day play.

These two outdoor courts see a ton of pickleball action because they are free to the public. Just expect a bit of a taller net as these are former concrete tennis courts.

There’s been some controversy about this court. It was meant to be the first official pickleball court for the county, but some players object to the modular court tiles that were chosen as the groundcover. Some players feel this type of unsanctioned flooring could pose an injury risk. All levels of play are welcome Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and beginner lessons are offered.

Anyone concerned with knee injuries will enjoy hearing about this facility’s state-of-the-art suspended wooden floor. Eight indoor courts are available to rent from 3 to 6 p.m. at $40/hour on weekdays. There’s also special pricing for multi-week payments. This location also features lessons with accredited trainers as well as open play.
Highland Memorial Courts
Two designated pickleball courts require badges and proof of residency, although you are allowed to bring a plus-one to play.

Plenty of pickleballing to be had at this park with six brand new courts available to both residents and non-residents of Morris County (with some restrictions for non-residents). You will need a season badge to play; however, there are seasonal pickleball sessions that are free.

Get ready for some serious pickleball in Morristown with six paint-lined tennis courts that convert into 12 pickleball courts. These are all free and open to the public, but reservations are not available.

Northland Recreation Center
It’s important to note that all township pickleball courts in this region require membership to play on these public courts. It’s $10 for township residents for the year, but $200 for non-residents. Court reservations are available.

Roseland has four pickleball courts at this location, but there are some rules you’ll need to follow. Players must be Roseland residents or accompanied by a resident. Here you’ll find two concrete outdoor pickleball courts that were formerly tennis courts. They’re open to the public and you can’t reserve spaces so it’s strictly first-come-first-served.
